Diluting Single Essential Oils with Base Oils Recommended Carrier Oils Safe Ratios and Usage Methods
carrier oils(also known as base oils) have a mild, subtle scent and are used to dilute highly concentrated essential oils, reducing their potency to ensure safe application on the skin. Common carrier oils include sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, avocado oil, and wheat germ oil.
General safety dilution ratios (for topical use on adults):
Daily body massage: 2% concentration (add 4 drops of essential oil per 10ml of carrier oil);Localized application (e.g., joints): 3% concentration (add 6 drops of essential oil per 10ml of carrier oil);Facial use: 1% concentration (add 2 drops of essential oil per 10ml of carrier oil);Sensitive skin or elderly individuals: Recommended 0.5% concentration (add 1 drop of essential oil per 10ml of carrier oil). The diluted essential oil blend can be used for full-body or localized massage to soothe and moisturize dry skin; applied to areas like the neck and shoulders to promote relaxation; or used sparingly for aromatic care.
⚠️ Note: Blended essential oils are for external use only and must not be ingested. Avoid the eye area and broken skin; a skin sensitivity test is recommended before first use.
