Jojoba oil : biological control replaces chemical pesticides

2025-11-27

Introduction: With the surge in global demand for organic agriculture, Jojoba Oil, a Natural oil derived from desert plants, is emerging as a novel biological control agent in agriculture. Its unique physical insecticidal mechanism and soil-improving properties offer an innovative solution for reducing reliance on chemical pesticides.

Technological Breakthrough: The core of jojoba oil's agricultural application lies in its "physical asphyxiation" mechanism. Li Ming, a researcher at the Institute of Plant Protection, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, explains: "Jojoba oil molecules can form nanoscale films that block the stomata of pests, causing them to suffocate, while also encapsulating fungal spores. This non-chemical mode of action makes it difficult for pests to develop resistance."

Experimental data shows that using jojoba oil diluted 200 times can achieve an 85% control efficacy against aphids and a 78% control efficacy against spider mites, with a residual effect lasting up to 15 days. More importantly, its decomposition products are water and carbon dioxide, which do not accumulate in the soil.

Experts predict: "The technology of combining jojoba oil with microbial agents is the future direction." Professor Chen Qiang of China Agricultural University said that the "jojoba oil-Bacillus subtilis" compound preparation developed by his team has improved the control efficacy against gray mold to 92% and has entered the field trial stage.
